NBA best bets today

  • Warriors -16.5 vs. Trail Blazers
  • Pelicans +3.5 vs. Timberwolves
  • Jazz +16.5 vs. Lakers

Warriors -16.5 vs. Trail Blazers

“I’m going to lay the number with the Warriors here, as I don’t see Portland coming out with any fight on the second day of a back-to-back with nothing to play for.

“Golden State should want to get up early and stay up, that way it may be able to rest Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry late in the game.

“The Warriors are going to play to win this game since they could still end up in the play-in tournament with the Lakers and Clippers right behind them in the standings. In fact, Golden State could fall all the way to the No. 8 if the New Orleans Pelicans jump into the mix as well.

“Portland has looked better over its last few games, but the team has still lost four games by 20+ points since Damian Lillard was shut down for the season.

“I’ll lay the points with Golden State in such a crucial game for its standing.”Peter Dewey

Pelicans +3.5 vs. Timberwolves

“The Pelicans have struggled on the road this season, but the Wolves come into this game at just 21-19 at home.

“Minnesota is also the worst team in the NBA against the spread as a home favorite, going 7-17 ATS this season.

“The Wolves have a tight turnaround, traveling from yesterday’s game in San Antonio to play at home in this one.

“I think the Pelicans can at least cover as underdogs, and I wouldn’t be shocked if they won this game outright. New Orleans, the Clippers, the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers all are in a must-win situation on Sunday to get the best seed possible.

“I’ll take the points against this Minnesota team all day.” — Peter Dewey

Jazz +16.5 vs. Lakers

“Asking Los Angeles to win this game by 18 or more points is a massive task, even with Utah likely sitting several key players.

“The Jazz, for what it is worth, are 20-9-1 against the spread as road underdogs this season.

“The Lakers are going to come out with a sense of urgency in this game, but Utah has lost just two games since the start of March by 18 or more points.

“That came with Markkanen in and out of the lineup and Sexton and Clarkson sitting out most of the games.

“I can’t lay this many points with the Lakers in this spot.”Peter Dewey
