At 34-46 and eliminated from playoff contention, the Wizards cannot be happy with how the season has played out.
With reports that Washington has expressed a desire to extend both Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma long-term, what does that mean for the rest of the roster?
Bradley Beal is currently signed to a max contract until 2027, making an average salary of $50 million per season. Porzingis’ contract is expected to be in the $180 million range while Kuzma is also headed toward a massive extension.
Having so much money committed to a trio of players implies that the franchise believes in the players to at the very least be in the playoff mix. The front office is going to do everything it can to surround Beal, Porzingis and Kuzma with players who maximize their talents.
With this in mind, here are three Wizards who definitely won’t be back next season:
3. Anthony Gill
Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis missed a combined 31 games this season, which gave the power forward from Virginia some opportunities to solidify his spot in the rotation. However, he struggled to make an impact. Not to mention, he himself has also had an issue with availability this season (has appeared in 57 games).
Averaging 3.2 points per game to go along with 1.6 rebounds per game and 0.5 assists per game, Gill hasn’t been able to find his role on the offensive side of the ball.
Additionally, the Wizards have two young forwards who have begun to show serious signs of growth. Both Corey Kispert and Deni Avdija have played admirably this season. At 30-years-old, he has one more year on contract, worth $2 million. With little investment in Gill, the Wizards can simply move on. If Anthony Gill wants any shot at extending his career, he needs to extend his shooting range.
