As the NBA world recognized LeBron James for breaking the all-time regular-season scoring record, Paul Pierce got weird on Twitter.
In a Twitter post, that is still very much not deleted, Paul Pierce honored Lebron James by calling him the Goat, but misspelled it, calling LeBron the Gaot. Additionally, the former All-Star decided to put the hashtag #IRespect in the middle of his post out of nowhere.
What other remarks did Paul Pierce make during LeBron’s record-setting night?
Afterward, Pierce made a couple more posts telling the world that LeBron breaking the record makes him “underrated” now. While there is nothing wrong with making a statement like this, calling attention to yourself while James was being recognized for breaking the record, making a statement like this is particularly inviting NBA Twitter to slander you.
Pierce doubled down on this by telling people to #STFU. Which is code for wanting people to stop talking about you. This made people double down on his comments, as NBA Twitter does not like being provoked into commenting on something.
The comments on the former NBA player’s Twitter account came in droves as people were mocking his career in the replies. One popular video that was used in his comments was Draymond Green’s, where he told Pierce mid-game that “he was chasing that farewell tour, people don’t love you like that.”
This Twitter post/thread isn’t really a big or bad deal for the former NBA player and basketball commenter as there is nothing really morally wrong with his posts. Still, it was definitely among the weirdest congratulations for the King.
