NBA Trade Rumors, San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz

Key NBA trade target just bought an absurd mansion in San Antonio

Jordan Clarkson might find himself with a new team at the NBA Trade Deadline. But he took care of getting a new home all by himself.

No one really knows what the Utah Jazz will do at the NBA trade deadline, with what seemed to be a rebuilding set-up unexpectedly turning into a competitive campaign with the playoffs as a possibility.

Before the season it seemed like a given that players like Jordan Clarkson, Mike Conley and Malik Beasley would be on the move. Then came word that the Jazz were interested in trying to re-sign Clarkson to an extension. You can add to those mixed signals the news that Clarkson just bought a 10,000-square-foot mansion in San Antonio, where he grew up, listed at more than $7 million.

The house has all the amenities you’d look for in a bajillion-dollar compound, including an elevator, game room, theater with stadium seating, pool with an outdoor bar and more. But does this have anything to do with Clarkson’s basketball future?

Could Jordan Clarkson end up with the Spurs at the NBA trade deadline?

Clarkson, who is averaging over 20 points per game for the first time and with a true shooting percentage that’s one of the highest of his career, will have no shortage of suitors. But it’s unlikely the Spurs would be one of them.

San Antonio is clearly rebuilding and looking to shed their own veterans like Doug McDermott, Jakob Poeltl and Josh Richardson — all players who won’t have much appeal to the Jazz is they decide to lean into their rebuild and trade someone like Clarkson. With two up-and-coming wings in Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson the Spurs also won’t have much use for a ball-dominant 30-year-old wing scorer.

Clarkson has a player option for next season and if he doesn’t reach terms with the Jazz on an extension, it’s possible he capitalizes on his career year by opting out and trying to secure a longer and more lucrative contract now, rather than waiting another season. But even in that case, it’s hard to imagine it’s with the Spurs and he’ll probably be just decorating his new home during the offseason for a while.
