Desperate Dennis Schroder begs LeBron James for his old job back

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Dennis Schroder wants to run it back with his old team, so he asked LeBron James on Instagram.

Schroder infamously turned down a four-year, $83 million deal in 2021, betting on himself to put up big numbers in a Lakers playoff run. Yet, neither of those things happened, and Schroder was left to test the open market.

Safe to say that didn’t go according to plan, and Schroder was forced to take pennies on the dollar (in NBA contract terms) as compared to what he would’ve earned in that extension. Because of this, he’s often the subject of jokes around NBA Twitter circles.

Now a free agent again, Schroder wants to run it back in a familiar setting. So, he reached out to LeBron James on Instagram.

James didn’t respond to that attempt.

Should Lakers sign Dennis Schroder?

How many point guard options would Los Angeles have to go through to even consider Schroder?

It’s not that he’s a bad player, but he’s not the puzzle piece to put the Lakers over the top. This is a team currently trying to trade for Kyrie Irving — or Eric Gordon or Buddy Hield at worst. Schroder doesn’t compare to those three players at this point in his career.

Schroder could be had on the cheap as a bench piece, so perhaps Los Angeles could consider him towards the end of the offseason, when they’re filling out the rest of the roster. For now, though, Schroder is not on their radar, and for good reason.
