Giannis is poised to win his first ever scoring title

With six regular-season games left, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo could win his first ever scoring title.

Fresh off surpassing the iconic Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most points scored in Milwaukee Bucks history, Giannis Antetokounmpo stands a real chance at winning his first ever scoring title.

The two-time MVP and reigning NBA champion is averaging 30.1 points per game. That mark has him tied with LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and 0.1 points ahead of Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks (28.2), Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks (28.1) and DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls (28.0) are all averaging 28.0 points or better, too.

With the scoring title going down to the wire, maybe it will be Greek Freak who comes out on top?

Milwaukee Bucks: Can Giannis Antetokounmpo win the NBA scoring title?

Of the Bucks’ remaining six games, they are only playing one team with no shot at the postseason: The Central Division rival Detroit Pistons on next Friday. While Milwaukee is almost certainly going to stay in the top six, they still have to play high-quality teams on the schedule like the Boston Celtics, the Chicago Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In short, Antetokounmpo is going to play.

With the other players in the mix for the scoring title, none of them are playing on truly bad teams amassing empty stats. Even if the Hawks or the Lakers bow out immediately in the play-in tournament, James’ and Young’s teams still have plenty to play for. In short, this scoring title race is going to come down to who is playing his best brand of basketball over the next two weeks.

Given that Antetokounmpo just put the Bucks on his back to carry Milwaukee past the Brooklyn Nets in overtime, he may have another herculean performance or two left in him before it is playoff time. He might be the Greek Freak, but he is approaching Greek god territory with each passing season. If Antetokounmpo does win the scoring title, this would be such an accomplishment.

For a guy who is not a natural jump-shooter, this would make the title all the more meaningful.
