Pelicans finally share some positive news about Zion Williamson

The New Orleans Pelicans provided a positive update on star Zion William’s injured foot.

There has certainly been a lot of talk surrounding New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson, who has not played a single game in the 2021-22 season. From the setbacks with a fractured right foot that prevented him from playing, to the drama around Williamson not immediately welcoming C.J. McCollum to the team after he was acquired at the trade deadline. In terms of the injury, there is some positive news to share.

On Wednesday, the Pelicans revealed that Williamson is experiencing improved bone healing in his right foot. From there, he will be able to progress to “full weight-bearing exercises and basketball activities.”

Even with this positive news, the team revealed that he is still out indefinitely with no timetable for a return.

Pelicans announce positive Zion Williamson injury update

This past offseason, Williamson suffered a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot. There was hope that he would eventually make his return in his third-NBA season, as he was cleared for one-on-one drills at one point. However, he suffered a setback in his recovery.

With this latest update, it is unknown if he will be able to return, as there is just over one month remaining in the season.

The former first-overall pick’s rookie season was cut short due to a knee injury. But in his second season, Williamson showed promise during the 61-game stretch, as he averaged 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 61.1-percent from the field.

Even with the positive news, Pelicans fans are still awaiting official confirmation as to whether Williamson will actually play this season.
