2021 Olympics: Potential replacements for Bradley Beal on Team USA roster

Bradley Beal will be replaced on the Team USA roster ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal will not play for Team USA in Tokyo this year.

The three-time All-Star was placed in COVID-19 protocols earlier in the week. Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant has also been placed in the protocol as well. While Grant has not been officially ruled out just yet, somebody will have to replace Beal on the Team USA roster.

Who are the best options to replace Beal on Team USA now that he has officially been ruled out?

Who replaces Bradley Beal on the 2021 Team USA roster?

Not only should we be looking at players who can closely approximate what Beal brings to the hardwood, but we should also be looking at players who would stand to gain a lot from playing on a big stage in the Summer Olympic Games. While a few former Olympians could answer the call of duty, it might be infinitely more likely to see a first-timer suit up for Team USA later this summer.

When it comes to first-timers, look for players like Darius Garland, Tyler Herro, Marcus Smart or Trae Young to step up for Team USA. But it doesn’t sound like Ja Morant has any interest in being a last-second replacement based on this tweet.

As for former Olympians, then they could try their luck with guys like Jimmy Butler, Paul George or Team USA legend Carmelo Anthony. Either way, Gregg Popovich and his staff have to act quickly to get a suitable replacement for Beal now.
