Cleveland Cavaliers, NBA Trade Rumors

Another report suggests Cavaliers are open to trading Collin Sexton

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking at potentially trading guard Collin Sexton this offseason.

Promising combo guard Collin Sexton may have played his last game for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated, the Cavaliers are exploring opportunities to trade the third-year pro out of Alabama this offseason. Sexton will be entering his age-23 season in 2021-22. While he is extension eligible this summer, the Cavs would also have to pay center Jarrett Allen, who they are really high on. Cleveland already has another guard in Darius Garland, as well as a top-three pick in this year’s draft.

Sexton averaged 24.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game in 60 games for the 2020-21 Cavaliers.

Collin Sexton trade rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers are exploring their options

Cleveland has the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. While they could look to add a guard like Jalen Suggs out of Gonzaga with that selection, the Cavaliers are among the worst teams in the NBA and could use a tad more roster balance than just a loaded backcourt. Cleveland has a lot of holes on its roster, but selling high on Sexton might help them get out of their rebuilding phase.

Ultimately, it was really only a matter of time before Cleveland decided on one of their two promising guards. Because Garland is a year younger than him, Sexton now becomes expendable, especially with newcomer Allen being on the same payday timeline as him. Cleveland may look at either adding more draft capital or potentially another young player to revamp their core around.

The Cavaliers should have plenty of suitors for Sexton, but they need to choose wisely on one.
