The Spurs have several realistic and attainable goals to strive for in the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

The San Antonio Spurs are not the dominant force they once were. But a No. 10 finish in the Western Conference was still good enough to qualify for the play-in round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

The Spurs have a play-in matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday in what is a do-or-die game. Let’s look at a few realistic goals the Spurs can accomplish in the playoffs, starting with the most important.

3. Win and advance

The Spurs need to win if they want to accomplish any goals in the postseason.

Beating the Grizzlies is certainly possible. But could the Spurs then beat the Los Angeles Lakers or Golden State Warriors? Hey, anything is possible in the playoffs.

It all starts Wednesday against Memphis. The Grizzlies took the season series by a final of 2-1, and all three games were double-digit finishes. For what it’s worth, all three games came early in the season.

Every single team in the play-in tournament expects to advance. That is why the NBA created the extra slots, as two extra teams get the chance to fight hard to the finish.

Having DeMar DeRozan leading the team is a good thing, and his experience, coupled with that of Rudy Gay, can go a long way in a college-style elimination game. Speaking of those two, this could represent their final games in a Spurs uniform.
