Video: Trae Young taunts Spike Lee, Knicks fans after hitting game-winning shot

Trae Young sent a message to Knicks fans at MSG after hitting a game-winner in Game 1.

The New York Knicks return to the playoffs was truly nostalgic.

If we all had a nickel for the amount of times we’ve heard about the Knicks being back in the playoffs, we’d all be able to afford tickets to a game.

But for as much that was made about Knicks nostalgia leading up to Game 1 of New York’s opening round series on Sunday, Trae Young doused fans with some reality laced with vintage pain.

After playing an entire game in front of as ruckus a crowd as we’ve seen at Madison Square Garden in a while, Young silenced Knicks fans with a game-winning shot to steal the first game of the series.

In what truly tied a bow around the nostalgia of Knicks experience in the playoffs, Young put a finger to his mouth and taunted fans by shushing them.

Young threw in a few expletives as well for emphasis.

Among the loudest and proudest Knicks fans during Game 1 was Spike Lee, which should come as no surprise to anyone. He’s the connective tissue between eras of Knicks fandom dating back to the glory days of the 90s. TNT cameras cut to a stunned Spike after showing Young shush the crowd.

How truly nostalgic.

Not only did the Knicks prop fans up with hope after returning to the playoffs in unexpected fashion, but they sucked their souls right out of their bodies with a last-second defeat.

While it could be sold as the Knicks clutching defeat from the jaws of victory, New York had absolutely no answer defensively for Young in Game 1. Unless they can figure that out it might not be the last time Knicks fans are forced to re-live the less than pleasant aspects of their playoff nostalgia.
