Russell Westbrook ejected, as Wizards’ frustrations continue

Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook was ejected in a loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Frustrations continue to boil over in what looks to be a terrible season for Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards.

Washington entered play at a league worst 3-11 on the season. The Wizards have dealt with COVID issues throughout the season. This was Westbrook’s first game back after clearing COVID protocols. Fate would have it he would be ejected early in the fourth quarter after shoving Atlanta Hawks point guard Rajon Rondo. While he was goaded into doing so, Westbrook took the bait.

Russell Westbrook’s Washington Wizards are the worst team in basketball

Westbrook was the second Wizards player ejected in this game, joining center Robin Lopez in the locker room. Washington fell at home to Atlanta 116-100, looking completely disjointed throughout the contest. While they still have games to make up, it is looking more and more like the Wizards are lottery bound than they are pushing for playoff contention in the East this year.

As for Atlanta, the Hawks look to be playoff bound for the first time since Trae Young became their star player. Again, this is what the team is hoping for after three trying seasons. While it remains to be seen how good the Hawks can be this year, they are certainly in a better place than Washington at the end of January. We have to wonder if Washington is about to blow it up.

This is not the season Westbrook or the entire Washington basketball team were hoping for.
