The Last Dance Limited Blu-Ray gift set includes deleted scenes from the never-before-seen uncut Stuart Scott x Michael Jordan “Sunday Conversation” from June 1998.
ESPN’s Emmy-winning Michael Jordan docuseries The Last Dance will receive a special limited time Blu-ray gift set release on Nov. 10 and the box set includes over four hours of bonus features.
One of the most intriguing bonus features is the complete, uncut version of Stuart Scott’s “Sunday Conversation” with Michael Jordan in June 1998. FanSided has the honor of premiering one exclusive from that interview, in which Jordan weighs in on everyone’s favorite sports debate: Jordan vs. the Next Michael Jordan.
Michael Jordan dismisses ‘the next Michael Jordan’ label
In the clip, Scott asks whether it’s fair to put the label of “the next Michael Jordan” on players like Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan. This was, of course, pre-LeBron James, when the King was a mere four years old. Nonetheless, it won’t surprise you that Jordan didn’t feel particularly threatened because, after all, “you can’t fool the fans.”

“It’s not fair, you know, but it’s a standard of measurement,” Jordan replies. “When I came in, [it was] Dr. J. It’s just a standard of measurement to compare to. But there’s never going to be another Michael Jordan. There’s never going to be another Dr. J. Magic Johnson. Larry Bird. Now, there’s gonna be a Kobe Bryant, there’s gonna be a Grant Hill, Anthony Hardaway. These guys are going to have similar traits, it’s how they manifest those traits to be the best basketball player.”
Jordan goes on, “No matter what the league does, in terms of trying to promote, you can’t fool the consumer, you can’t fool the fans. So I mean, the game is going to say, he’s the next, whoever. Your game is going to have to evolve to that label the league is trying to promote you with. It’s a danger to that because the credibility of the game could take a hit.”
The Blu-ray box set includes never-seen interviews, like the clip featured above from the complete, never-seen uncut Stuart Scott-Michael Jordan “Sunday Conversation” from June 1998. It also includes “Game 6: The Movie,” additional archival material, Scott Van Pelt Sports Center roundtables, a Jalen & Jacoby Aftershow and more.
