The NBA is discussing MLB-style multi-game series to reduce travel

With the NBA hoping to start its 2020-21 campaign in December, could it end up making some serious, changes similar to Major League Baseball?

The 2020 NBA campaign recently came to a close, but fans are already counting down the days for the new season to arrive. With it looking like late December will be when the best players in the world return to the hardwood, the league is back at the drawing board trying to come up with the best plan possible to complete the season in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.

With that in mind, it’s looking like commissioner Adam Silver could be ready to borrow something from Rob Manfred’s playbook. Reports are that the NBA is considering playing some MLB-style multi-game series to cut down on the amount of travel for each squad.

NBA fans could see teams play multi-game series to cut down on travel time starting next season

Per NBA insider Kevin O’Connor, the league could indeed play some series this year with the hopes of cutting travel by around 25 percent. O’Connor also noted that the plan is for the new campaign to get underway on Dec. 22, with a 72-game season all set to be played.

It goes without saying, but the pandemic has caused countless changes in the sports world. For the new NBA season, Silver of course wants to make sure the players and coaches are being put at minimal risk of catching COVID-19, which is why the multi-game series idea is being presented.

The league had plenty of success with its ‘bubble’ to finish out the 2019-20 season, which ended with LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers winning the Finals. Now, we must wait to see how things will be played in the coming months, with player safety no doubt being the top priority.
