Billy Donovan is already making changes in Chicago, fires 4 Bulls’ assistants

New Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan is wasting no time making changes, as he’s already fired four assistants.

New Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has been on the job for less than a month, but he’s already shaking things up in a big way over in The Windy City. This week, it was announced that Donovan has decided to make some staff changes, firing four Bulls assistants.

Those coaches who are now out of work are Karen Stack Umlauf, Dean Cooper, Nate Loenser and Roy Rogers. The four were informed of Donovan’s decision on Monday.

Billy Donovan is looking to start fresh with the Chicago Bulls in 2020

The news came a bit out of nowhere, but it’s clear that Donovan wants to make some changes to try and get the Bulls back to a strong level. He’s been given the keys to the team after spending the past five seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Donovan never missed the postseason with Oklahoma City, posting a 243-157 mark. However, he was never able to get the team over the hump to the NBA Finals. The Thunder have been to the NBA Finals once in franchise history, falling to LeBron James and the Miami Heat in 2012.

For the Bulls, they haven’t been to the NBA Finals since the days of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson in 1998. The team of course went on to win six rings with ‘Air Jordan’ leading the way. While Chicago has gone on some decent runs in the postseason since, there just hasn’t been the same spark in town.

Donovan wants to change that, as he’s been tasked with returning to team to greatness. Only time will tell if he’ll be able to get that job done.
