The Clippers were stunned by the Nuggets in Game 7 on Tuesday night, and Twitter had a field day after Kawhi Leonard and Paul George disappeared late.
The Los Angeles Clippers were sent packing by the Denver Nuggets in Tuesday night’s Game 7, completely one of the NBA’s most shocking choke jobs of all time and sending one of the title favorites home two rounds early.
Fans and players alike seemed thrilled with Denver’s dominant win, however, with Lakers fans especially joining in on the fun. Damian Lillard may have won the night, though, roasting Paul George and Patrick Beverley after he feuded with the two throughout the playoffs.
What else was Twitter saying about the Clippers’ collapse?
Teammate CJ McCollum and former player Kendrick Perkins joined in on the fun as well, backing up Lillard and indirectly taking a shot at Beverley, who does not seem to have many fans among his NBA colleagues.
Lakers legend Magic Johnson had the best tweet of the night, though. Known for tweeting painfully obvious statements, Johnson threw some shade at his cross-town rival, pointing out the Clippers’ history of playoff disappointments.
However, the Clippers slander was not just limited to current and former players. Fans joined in on the fun as well, pointing out just how disappointing a second-round exit is for a team that went all-in on an NBA Finals appearance this offseason when it traded for George and signed reigning Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard.
Regardless of how the Clippers view themselves, this is an inexcusable loss, and NBA Twitter does not appear ready to let them off the hook any time soon. While Paul George says that this season was never Finals or bust, the outside perception does not align with that.
The Denver Nuggets deserve plenty of credit, though, and now have a chance to advance to the NBA Finals if they can knock out LeBron James and the Lakers.
