Ja Morant is just trying to get that Patrick Mahomes money

Ja Morant is already thinking about his next contract.

Ja Morant‘s first season with the Memphis Grizzlies may not be in the books yet, but the Rookie of the Year frontrunner is already thinking about his future.

With the official NBA restart just over a week away and social media teams looking to provide basketball-related content for their fans for the first time in four months, we were bound to see some funny and engaging pictures on Twitter.

When the Grizzlies snapped off a few photos of Morant just goofing around and dropping back to throw a basketball like a football, their rookie phenom had jokes for his Twitter followers, explaining, “just trying to get dat Mahomes contract.”

Hey, it’s never too early for Ja Morant to be thinking about the future!

Patrick Mahomes, superstar quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs and reigning Super Bowl MVP, recently agreed to a 10-year, $503 million contract extension that will have him playing in KC for the next 12 years in total. It was the largest contract in sports history and a well-deserved pay day for one of the NFL’s brightest and youngest talents.

Morant has a ways to go before he puts himself in that category, but he’s had a sensational first season for the Grizzlies, averaging 17.6 points and 6.9 assists per game while shooting 49.1 percent from the floor and 36.7 percent from 3-point range. He’s helped lead Memphis to the 8-seed in the Western Conference, and with eight games to play in Orlando, he could very well lead the Grizz to the playoffs in his first NBA season.

While one could argue the Rookie of the Year race would be tighter if Zion Williamson had been healthy, there’s no denying Morant is one of the league’s most promising up-and-coming talents. NBA max contracts only go for five years, but after his rookie deal is done, it might not be long before we see the Grizzlies keeping their franchise star in Grind City on the NBA equivalent of a “Mahomes contract.”
