HOUSTON — Russell Westbrook climbed a rung on the all-time triple-doubles list by recording his first with the Houston Rockets.
Westbrook’s outing Saturday night against the New Orleans Pelicans was the 139th triple-double of his career, passing Magic Johnson for second all-time behind Oscar Robertson.
Westbrook finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists in the Rockets’ 126-123 win.
Robertson, a Hall of Famer who was the only player to average a triple-double for a season before Westbrook accomplished the feat the last three years, tallied 181 career triple-doubles.
Westbrook broke Robertson’s 55-year-old record for most triple-doubles in a season with 42 for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016-17, when he beat out now-Rockets teammate James Harden to win the MVP.
Westbrook also holds the record for most consecutive triple-doubles with a streak of 10 in a row last season, one more than Wilt Chamberlain’s run in 1968.
The Thunder went 110-28 in Westbrook’s triple-double performances.
