NBA Trade Deadline 2020: 5 teams who should be chasing Robert Covington

Robert Covington will be one of the most hotly pursued players ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline. Which teams should be after him?

With the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline less than two weeks away, the Minnesota Timberwolves appear poised to cash in.

According to Ben Cohen of the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers and Dallas Mavericks are among the teams to have expressed interest in T-Wolves forward Robert Covington. Minnesota is “expected to drive a hard bargain,” according to Jon Krawczynski and Shams Charania of The Athletic, but with a playoff push looking increasingly unlikely — the Wolves are seven games behind the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies — it might be time to sell high.

Covington is a notoriously streaky shooter who’s gone 33.9 percent from 3-point range on 6.4 attempts per game this season. He’s also a savvy, disruptive defender who has long ranked among the league leaders in deflections, which makes him a plug-and-play option for any contender.

Which teams should be in the running for Covington? More importantly, who has the requisite assets and salary-matching pieces to intrigue Minnesota? (Sorry, Houston, but that means you’re out.)

Let’s dive in.
