Hawks vs. Clippers prediction and odds for Sunday, January 8 (Bet the UNDER)

The Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers face off on Sunday night in what may be the best game of Sunday’s NBA action.

The Clippers are in desperate need of a win, as they’ve lost five straight heading into this matchup against an Atlanta team that has underperformed expectations so far in the 2022-23 campaign.

The Hawks have struggled on the road this season, a big reason why they are in the No. 10 spot in the Eastern Conference.

With Paul George, Luke Kennard and Nicholas Batum all listed as questionable for the Clips, how should we bet on this game?

Here’s a look at the latest odds and my best bet:

Hawks vs. Clippers odds, spread and total

Hawks vs. Clippers prediction and pick

I have no interest in taking a side in this game for multiple reasons.

One, the Clippers have struggled mightily to win a game as of late, and they’re just a game over .500.

The Hawks, on the other hand, are just 7-12-1 against the spread as road dogs this season. So, I’m going to the total for my best bet tonight.

If George misses this game, I have very little confidence in the Clippers’ offense, which ranks 28th in the NBA this season.

Atlanta isn;t much better clocking in at 22nd in the league. The only elite unit in this matchup has been Los Angeles on defense, where the team is sixth in defensive rating.

The other crazy stat is that Los Angeles has gone under this number of 234.5 in 33 of its 41 games so far this season. Even if Atlanta pushes the pace, I think the Clippers play too slow, and too poorly on offense, for this to go OVER.
