Klay Thompson sends a clear message about Warriors future

Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson believes 15-2 record is a “great indicator” of Warriors winning championship.

Klay Thompson has been the ultimate Warriors hype man all season.

From the sidelines, Thompson has been cheering his teammates on as he rehabilitates his right Achilles tendon. He may not play until Christmastime, but Klay is already telling media that he believes his team will go all the way.

“We’re 15-2. It’s a great indicator. Our defense is top 3 in the league along with our offense. And I’m not even out there yet. Think about that. Really think about that.”

Warriors SG Klay Thompson on championship chances: “We’re 15-2”

The “championship or bust” mentality is present on the Warriors, with Draymond Green referencing their precipitous drop in past seasons. Steve Kerr has etched the names of all those who doubted his team within his mind, and Thompson is channeling that same energy.

It’s understandably frustrating for the Warriors, who led a five-year NBA dynasty resulting in three NBA championships. Kevin Durant is gone, but much of the same talent that lined the “Death Lineup” is still in San Francisco. Two bad years for the Warriors were apparently enough for analysts to discount them before this season even began.

Now, the Warriors boast one of  the best defenses and offenses in the league, as well as frontrunner for MVP candidacy Steph Curry. Additionally, they have the best record in the NBA, one win and loss above the 14-3 Phoenix Suns.

Perhaps their difficult past is what has given Thompson and his teammates the hunger seen on the court today. Thompson has missed out on the past two years, and his imminent return appears to be mere weeks away.

In the 2019-20 season, the Warriors finished the year with just as many wins as they have today: 15.

As Klay said, “think about that. Really think about that.”
