Robin Lopez has epic troll of both Celtics and Lakers over new arena name

Orlando Magic center Robin Lopez mocks the Staples Center rename and the city of Boston in one fell swoop with hilarious tweet about Crypto.com Arena.

The Staples Center is iconic, which is why renaming the beloved Los Angeles event space has sent shockwaves through the sports world.

Clearly, “Crypto.com Arena” doesn’t have the same ring to it, which is why Magic center Robin Lopez thinks the name should have been something else entirely.

Lopez was disappointed that AEG and Crypto.com outbid the city of Boston, whose ideal name would have been “F*** The Lakers Go Pats Performing Arts Center”, according to Lopez.

Robin Lopez offers much better renaming scenario for the Crypto.com Arena

Funnily enough, Lopez and his twin brother Brook Lopez are actually from California and were born in North Hollywood. Brook spent a year with the Lakers during the 2017-18 season before he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018, where he won his first NBA championship in 2021.

Robin has had a starkly different career than that of his brother, playing for eight different NBA teams compared to Brook’s three separate stints. Both brothers were drafted in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft, with Brook going No. 10 and Robin going No. 15. Robin was also a Milwaukee Buck alongside his brother, but he left the year before they won the championship.

The longtime NBA big man has developed a reputation as a funny man on social media, with plenty of takes on how professional sports deals should be handled.

Lopez also joked earlier this season that signing with Orlando in August forced him into a “truce” with Stuff, the Orlando Magic mascot.

Before the 4-11 Magic defeated the 8-7 Knicks, Lopez joked that he would have no part in their Madison Square Garden performance because the team sent him off for a slice of Sbarro’s pizza.

Ultimately, Lopez didn’t, as he hasn’t played a minute since Oct. 30. Until he does, Lopez can be expected to eat pizza, hang out with Stuff, and pitch much better Staples Center renaming options.
