Piston fans don’t like Blake Griffin and they let him know it when he came back to Detroit. The Nets forward responded with boos of his own.
The split between the Pistons and Blake Griffin was not amicable, so it’s definitely too early to expect either side to be over it.
Griffin will have turned up to Little Caesar’s Arena expecting to be booed.
What was less expected was seeing him boo back.
Blake Griffin booed along with Pistons fans
After Griffin drew a foul on a layup, Pistons fans gave him a hearty round of boos and he joined right in.
There aren’t many great ways to respond to boos other than grabbing a victory. And Griffin and the Nets look on track to do that.
Griffin was traded from the Clippers to the Pistons in 2018 and went on to lead them to the Playoffs in 2018-19 while earning an All-Star nod. However, injuries plagued his time in Detroit and he missed most of the 2019-20 season because of knee surgery.
He returned for the 2020-21 season but he appeared checked out physically and mentally. The Pistons bought out his contract and he signed for the Nets soon after.
Detroit fans weren’t too pleased to see him contribute strongly for Brooklyn after looking so worn for the Pistons.
Eventually, bygones will have to be bygones. That’s just not the case now.
