Zion Williamson had foot surgery this summer and we’re just finding out about it

New Orleans Pelicans superstar Zion Williamson is apparently recovering from foot surgery.

Third-year superstar Zion Williamson, of the New Orleans Pelicans, had his name appear in many headlines during the summer offseason. It turns out the biggest headline involving Williamson was kept a secret until media day — that he suffered a broken foot and underwent surgery earlier in the summer.

New Orleans Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, David Griffin announced this news today during the team’s media day.

Griffin said the injury took place prior to summer league, which began Aug.  8. Griffin also expressed that while he’s sure the public will be shocked and make a big deal out of it, the team has been dealing with it and anticipates Williamson to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Zion Williamson spoke on his injury

Williamson also took to the podium and detailed his experience with the injury. He cites the “huge chip on [his] shoulder” that caused him to “overdo it” in off-season training.

Williamson and first-year head coach Willie Green both echoed Griffin’s statement that they expect Williamson to be ready for the regular-season opener.

Zion Williamson and David Griffin’s relationship

Williamson has been in the news all summer because of reports claiming that he and his family had a fractured relationship with David Griffin and the organization. Both Griffin and Williamson took the time to address those reports. Griffin said that he and Williamson laughed at reports of Griffin playing the piano for Williamson because he doesn’t know how to play piano. He also went on to say that Williamson’s team was not happy with the way they were being pictured through reports.

During his time at the podium, Zion Williamson also took a moment to spray water on any beliefs that he and Griffin didn’t get along.

Williamson made his commitment to the city and to David Griffin, expressing love for both. That’s music to the ears of New Orleans Pelicans fans if taken at face value. Now they must wait and hope he is ready to go without restrictions when the team tips off Oct. 20.
