Miami Heat, NBA Free Agency

Miami Heat throw another challenge at their training staff, re-sign Victor Oladipo

The Miami Heat bring back often-injured guard Victor Oladipo on a one-year minimum deal.

Victor Oladipo is re-upping with the Miami Heat in free agency on a one-year minimum contract.

Oladipo was traded twice last season, but only managed to play 33 games in total. This includes a measly four in a Heat uniform. While Oladipo was a two-time NBA All-Star when he was with the Indiana Pacers, he has not played in more than 36 games since the 2018-19 NBA season. When healthy, he is worth way more than the veteran minimum, but you cannot count on him right now.

Are the Heat wise to bring back an often-injured Oladipo into the fold for another NBA season?

Given that they already traded for him on an expiring deal, getting Oladipo to sign for the minimum only three years removed from being an Eastern Conference All-Star is impressive. This is the type of low-risk/high-reward move a savvy team like Miami should make. The Heat need to find a way to get back towards the top of the Eastern Conference, and this is a way to potentially do just that.

Miami does not need to bank on Oladipo being a star performer for them while he works his way back from injury. If he can contribute leading the second unit as a sixth man of sorts, that will do wonders in keeping pace with the Atlanta Hawks in the Southeast Division. From there, if you can gain ground on the Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami would certainly welcome that.

Oladipo coming back to Miami on a veteran minimum could yield a massive return on investment.
