Detroit Pistons fans absolutely lost their minds reacting to the moment the NBA Draft Lottery results were revealed.
For the first time in almost two decades, absolute euphoria rippled across the Motor City. Not since the 2004 NBA Finals have the Detroit Pistons brought their fans as much joy as was experienced at the end of the NBA Draft Lottery.
Detroit won the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, clinching a chance to draft a franchise altering star who is already being celebrated for restoring some glory. It’s something that hasn’t happened in 51 years, but it’s a reality for long suffering fans hoping for a turn for the better.
The consensus pick is Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham, who was the best collegiate player in the nation this past year and was essentially a lock to be the top pick before March Madness gave him a national spotlight.
The Cowboys didn’t last long in the NCAA Tournament but Cunningham had already put on enough of a display of talent during the regular season to convince scouts and fans alike that he’s the guy to be the top pick in the draft.
And now we know where he’s going: Detroit.
Fans in the Motor City couldn’t contain their excitement as the No. 1 overall pick was revealed.

Cade Cunningham position
Cunningham is a point guard, and will fit nicely into Detroit’s lineup of young budding stars. He’ll join Killian Hayes in the backcourt and will have up-and-comers like Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart alongside him.
Cunningham and Hayes play the same position, so there might be a discussion about what to do as far as moving one of them to shooting guard, or adding a veteran free agent at that spot and having the duo split time.
Then again, Cunningham is a world-class talent who will be the face of the franchise in Detroit for years to come. So it’s a matter of who will fit around him rather than how he’ll fit into the lineup.
