Timberwolves: Malik Beasley suspended 12 games for felony charge

Star Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Malik Beasley has been suspended for 12 games due to his felony arrest on weapons charges.

In late September, Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Malik Beasley stole headlines but for all the wrong reasons. That’s because the standout was arrested on felony drugs and weapons charges. Now, in the middle of a stellar campaign, Beasley is facing punishment from the NBA.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Beasley has been informed by the commissioner’s office on Thursday that he’s been suspended for the next 12 games.

Malik Beasley was arrested in September on felony weapons charges and will be suspended for 12 games

Earlier this month, Beasley decided to plead guilty to a felony count of threats of violence. With that charge, Beasley has been sentenced to 120 days in jail, which he will serve once the 2020-21 NBA campaign comes to a close.

“I will take this time to reflect on my decisions,” Beasley told Charania in a statement. “I apologize to all the great fans out there who have supported me during this difficult time and I promise I will come back very soon as a better person and player.”

Beasley is having a career year for the Timberwolves, as the 6-foot-5, 195-pounder is averaging 20.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest. Despite Beasley putting on a show each time he’s on the hardwood, it’s been another year to forget for Minnesota. The team sits in last place of the Western Conference standings with its 7-26 mark, leaving fans disappointed regularly after final whistles.

To make matters worse for the team, Minnesota will be without D’Angelo Russell for 4-6 weeks with his knee injury. It’s been a horrible campaign for the Timberwolves and things have only gotten worse with this latest Beasley update.
