NBA Rumors: Could Karl-Anthony Towns be back after the All-Star Break?

Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns has been sidelined since Nov. 28 due to a calf injury. Will he return after the All-Star break?

The Minnesota Timberwolves currently sit in eighth place in the Western Conference with a 30-29 record as of Monday night. Recently, the Timberwolves brought in Mike Conley Jr. from the Utah Jazz to reunite with Rudy Gobert by way of the three-team trade that sent D’Angelo Russell to the Los Angeles Lakers. But they have been without one key piece to their team for quite some time, and that’s star Karl-Anthony Towns.

Back on Nov. 28, 2022, Towns left Minnesota’s game against the Washington Wizards with what was determined to be a calf strain. After going for MRI results, it was revealed by the team that he would be reevaluated in several weeks.

With the All-Star break coming up, could Towns return to the Timberwolves for their second-half push?

As of this writing, there is no clear update as to when Towns will be able to return to the court to help out his team.

On Nov. 29, the day after Town’s injury, ESPN senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Towns would be out for four-to-six weeks. Since then, there hasn’t been any indication that he was nearing a return.

Back in mid-January, Towns revealed on a Twitch stream that he was actually dealing with a more serious injury. Specifically, it was a Grade 3 calf strain, which usually takes over two months to recover.

“I wish it was four to six weeks. I knew then it wasn’t going to be four to six,” Towns said, h/t HoopsHype. “The team was trying to say four to six. There was no way with the injury I sustained, it’s a very significant injury. I don’t know if they were trying to give false hope to the fans or what the case may be.”

Towns has played in just 21 games this season, averaging 20.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists, while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 32.5 percent from the three-point line.

Will Towns return after the All-Star break? That is a question that still remains unanswered.
