The Hawks have been shopping John Collins for multiple seasons and NBA trade rumors say they’re getting increasingly flexible about their price.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Hawks have lowered their price for John Collins, who has been on the market for a long time. Additionally in his report, he says that the Rockets and the Jazz are known to be interested in the Collins.
The Hawks are in a lot of trouble. The trade for Dejounte Murray clearly isn’t having the impact that the Hawks wanted it to have, as Atlanta is currently 26-26 on the season and is stuck in the play-in spots. Trae Young is seen as a guy who could request a trade after this season, according to a top reporter with a lot of good sources.
Why would the Hawks want to trade John Collins
While it doesn’t mean that things are on fire for the Hawks, they are in a pretty bad spot when it comes to the future. Another big concern when it comes to this team is the fact that Hawks owner Antony P. Ressler is unlikely to pay the luxury tax for very long if this team continues to be mediocre.
The Hawks replaced their GM, Travis Schlenk a month ago due to a power struggle that involves Ressler’s son. According to sources in another article by Sam Amick, Schlenk thought the price for Murray was too much and gave away too many draft assets.
While that is a debate for another day, the trade definitely sped up the Hawks’ timeline. It gets even worse when you realize that Ressler doesn’t want to pay the tax, and the Hawks need to find a way to get better, with their main trading chip being John Collins.
With the way things are going for the Hawks, they need to find someone that can fix things now rather than a draft pick. Things are getting very bad in Atlanta and a trade should be coming for the Hawks based on the reports. Atlanta is having a very dark moment right now. The veteran return from Utah (Jordan Clarkson, Kelly Olynyk) or Houston (Eric Gordon, KJ Martin) might not be enough to save them, but there is a good chance that the trade happens.
