For years, the Splash Brothers — Steph Curry and Klay Thompson — have reigned as the best shooting duo in the NBA. But they don’t hold the crown this year.
Steph Curry has redefined 3-point shooting in the NBA but his long-time teammate, Klay Thompson, has been just behind him. We all know Curry’s numbers but Thompson has made 41.4 percent of his career 3-pointers. He has two of the highest single seasons for made 3s in NBA history and he’s 13th on the all-time made 3-pointer list.
However, he’s also had a difficult season, making a career-low 37.5 percent from beyond the arc this year. That has opened the door for a few other duos to supplant the Splash Brothers as the best 3-point shooting pair in the NBA. *All stats current as of 12/30*
Who are the best 3-point shooting duos in the NBA this season?
3. Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland
Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland may be the most surprising elite shooting duo in the league right now. Garland did hit 37.8 percent of his 3s over his first three seasons in the league but he’s jumped to 40.0 percent this season on 6.2 attempts per game, about the same as he attempted last season.
Mitchell is just on another planet. He’d hit better than 37.0 percent just once in his first five seasons in the NBA, but he’s hitting 41.3 percent on 9.3 attempts per game this year. The big leap has been off the dribble, where he’s hitting 45.5 percent on 5.5 attempts per game. Curry is the only player hitting a higher percentage of pull-up 3s this season on three or more attempts per game.
