The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost five consecutive games heading into their matchup with the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night.
Detroit is just 2-8 in its last 10 games, and it has the worst record in the Eastern Conference, so neither of these teams is bringing much to the table for bettors to hang their hat on.
Minnesota has been unable to stay in the playoff picture with Karl-Anthony Towns out of the lineup, and the team ranks 19th in the NBA in net rating this season.
Detroit won’t have Killian Hayes (suspension) in this game, and it is coming off a loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday night.
The Pistons are 4-4 against the spread on the second night of a back-to-back this season, but they’re in a tough spot on the road here, where they’ve gone just 4-16 on the season.

Pistons vs. Timberwolves prediction and pick
The Wolves are certainly hoping the New Year brings a lot more success to the team, as they went all in during the offseason by trading for Rudy Gobert.
Minnesota is just 4-7 against the spread as a home favorite in the 2022-23 season, but I’m going to side with the Wolves in this game since Detroit is shorthanded and struggling at this point in the season.
Cade Cunningham is done for the season, making this a lost year for the Pistons, and they’ve shown how many holes they have on the roster, ranking 29th in net rating this season.
Minnesota hasn’t lived up to expectations, but the Wolves are inside the top-20 in offensive and defensive rating this season. The Pistons are well outside that group.
Without Hayes, Detroit’s guard depth is even thinner, and I don’t think it can keep up on the road against this Minnesota team.
