The Los Angeles Lakers are in a tough spot with star Anthony Davis for the foreseeable future, and they were blown out by the Phoenix Suns in their last game.
Now, the Lakers are on the road against the Sacramento Kings, who have been one of the more surprising teams in the West, on Wednesday.
LeBron James missed the Lakers’ loss to Phoenix, but he is listed as probable for this game. The Kings have listed Domantas Sabonis and Harrison Barnes as questionable for this game.
The Lakers looked to be turning their season around before Davis got hurt, but now the team has an uphill battle to get into the playoff conversation in the West. Los Angeles enters this game with a 13-17 record, including a 5-10 road record, through 30 games.
With the Kings set as home favorites for just the eighth time this season, can the Lakers pull off a wild upset, or at least cover in this game?
Let’s take a look at the latest odds:
Lakers vs. Kings odds, spread and total
Lakers vs. Kings prediction and pick
If there’s one trend to follow in this game, it’s the Lakers’ awful against the spread record as road underdogs this season.
The team is just 3-10 ATS in that spot, and it’s going to be facing an uphill battle on offense without Davis.
The Kings and Lakers both love to push the pace, but the Kings (sixth in offensive rating) are much better than Los Angeles (21st in offensive rating) at scoring efficiently this season.
The Kings are coming off a bad loss to the Charlotte Hornets as 10-point favorites, but the Lakers’ supporting cast around James is subpar, especially with Davis out and Russell Westbrook listed as questionable for this game.
At the end of the day, I expect this game to be played at a frenetic pace, with Los Angeles’ offense eventually struggling to keep up. Sabonis’ status will be important for taking the Kings, but I’m willing to grab them at -6 before the line moves.
