The Cavaliers are armed with an interesting nucleus of young talent, but they need to add another quality piece at No. 14 in this year’s NBA Draft.
Cleveland’s front office nailed their first-round pick in last year’s draft when they secured the rights to big man Evan Mobley. The Cavaliers might find it more difficult to nab another star with a pick in the middle of this year’s Lottery, but it’s still imperative they add another starter to augment the team’s intriguing young corps.
Uncertainty around Collin Sexton‘s free agency makes finding another scorer a tempting idea for the Cavs at No. 14. Wing Caris LeVert is also heading towards the open market. That’s the spot that Cleveland really needs to fill with their highest draft pick.
It’s time for the Cavaliers to take a swing on a talented wing who can help them as a two-way player in the postseason. Look for Cleveland to zero in on the following five prospects as the NBA Draft grows nearer.
Who looks like a fit for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the latest NBA Draft rumors?
5. Jeremy Sochan
Sochan slipping to No. 14 would be a dream scenario for the Cavaliers. He’s a consensus top-10 prospect as a young wing who projects as an elite defender at multiple positions. Add in his advanced ball-handling ability for a prospect of his age and it’s easy to see why he oozes star potential.
The knock on Sochan as a prospect is his lack of a proven jump shot. If he’d consistently nailed the three-ball at Baylor he’d be a lock for the top five of this year’s draft. It’s still unlikely he’s going to be there when Cleveland goes on the clock unless they trade up. If he does fall to 14 the Cavs should celebrate in their War Room.
