Shaquille O’Neal said that there is no way that Rudy Gobert could guard him one-on-one. The Jazz star responded on Instagram.
When it comes to Shaquille O’Neal, he was one of the most dominant players in the NBA during the prime years of his career. There is no denying that.
During the latest episode of “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” co-host Spice Adams said he thinks that Jazz star Rudy Gobert could hold O’Neal to 12 points. Shaq responded by saying Gobert could hold him to 12 points, but in the first three minutes. O’Neal’s full comments, can be viewed in the video below:
Rudy Gobert responds to Shaq’s comments, saying he could guard him
Shortly after Bleacher Report posted the video on their Instagram account, Gobert responded in the comments section shortly afterward. Gobert boldly claimed that he “would lock his ass up,” complete with a lock emoji.
Gobert is very confident in his belief that he could guard O’Neal, and why wouldn’t he? He is a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. But when it comes to how the two would match up, O’Neal was simply unstoppable. Just look at his stats page, and you can see that he led the league in field-goal percentage and two-point field-goal percentage 10 times in his career.
Of course, we will never get the answer as to who would win a one-on-one matchup between Gobert and Shaq, considering they played in two different eras. But, it creates one interesting debate.
Do you think Gobert could guard Shaq? Let us know in the comments.
