Joel Embiid and the 76ers were taken to overtime by the Raptors in Toronto but the MVP candidate was ready to break hearts at the buzzer.
After looking in control for the first two games of the series, Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers found much more trouble from the Raptors in Toronto.
The home team put up a spirited effort that saw them lead for the majority of the game. However, the Sixers wouldn’t go away and Embiid help to force overtime. And in the extra frame, the MVP candidate showed why he was in that conversation.
With just a hair under a second left on the clock, the Philly big man stepped out and drilled an ice-cold 3-pointer that gave the 76ers the eventual overtime win.
Joel Embiid game-winner in OT makes NBA Twitter go wild
The shot was giving everyone on NBA Twitter all of the things to cheer about.
Embiid has been playing like a man possessed all season and that’s not stopping in the playoffs. After the game-winner, he told NBA TV, “The job is not done. We got one more. We gotta come back here in two days and try to beat them again.”
Miraculously, this was Embiid’s first career game-tying or go-ahead FG in the game’s final second (4th quarter/OT), regular season or playoffs. He was 0-14 prior to sinking the game-winner in overtime on Wednesday night.
He finished with 33 points and 13 rebounds, none bigger than the final three he put on the board. And with that, the 76ers took a 3-0 lead in the series, looking destined to move forward with ease.
