Rap star Kendrick Lamar’s newest music video features a series of jaw-dropping deepfakes including Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
Kendrick Lamar’s newest music video is a stunning example of the space where art meets technology.
The rap star stands in front of a red background performing “The Heart Part 5” but what starts out as his face morphs into deep fakes of familiar faces including OJ Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Will Smith, and Nipsey Hussle.
Eventually, Lamar’s face becomes that of Lakers star Kobe Bryant.
Kendrick Lamar used a Kobe Bryant deep fake in his latest music video.
The video begins with a title reading, “I am. All of us,” so the theme of the endeavor is pretty clear.
Still, it’s jarring to see such convincing depictions of faces projected onto Lamar’s. The fact that Bryant and Hustle tragically passed just a couple of years ago makes it even more of an experience.
The artwork for the song also features an image of Bryant’s hand when he was posing with his championship trophy.
The NBA legend may be gone but his impact is still felt, not just in the sports world but in society at large.
Bryant was killed in a helicopter accident in 2020 at the age of 41 along with eight others, including his daughter Gianna.
The year before, Hussle was shot and killed in Los Angeles.
