Brad Stevens says he’s definitely not leaving to coach the Lakers

Brad Stevens did not hesitate to shoot down the idea of him taking over the head coaching position with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers are on the hunt for a new head coach after firing Frank Vogel this past Monday, and if Boston Celtics GM Brad Stevens is on their list, they can cross his name off.

Stevens made an appearance on Toucher and Rich radio show, and he was asked if he would entertain the idea of him becoming the Lakers coach if approached, Stevens replied: not entertaining it.

“No. Not entertaining,” Stevens said bluntly about the possibility. “First of all, I have no idea what my future holds. I’m in one of those positions where someone decides to move on from me and this is the world we live in. I’m definitely not leaving to go to the Lakers. I know that for a fact.”

Brad Stevens has had a successful career with the Celtics

During his appearance, Stevens also talked about being a part of the Celtics organization.

“How about the fact that I lived in Boston for nine years and everything in my closet is green with Boston Celtic gear,” Stevens said. “My whole existence is around trying to help this team be as good as it can be. Let’s keep it that way.”

Stevens coached the Celtics for eight seasons before taking over as GM. He led the team to seven consecutive playoff appearances and they reached the conference finals three times under him. This season the Celtics are No. 2 in the Eastern Conference and have a good shot at making it back to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Stevens stated he was content staying in Boston, and Celtics fans should be happy to hear he has no plans of leaving anytime soon.
