Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis still has hope of making the playoffs but he’s frustrated by “what we could’ve been” this season.
The Lakers brought together a big three in Los Angeles this season, matching LeBron James and Anthony Davis with Russell Westbrook.
It should have created a lineup capable of challenging in the Western Conference. Instead, Los Angeles is in danger of missing the playoffs as a difficult season wraps up.
While Westbrook has started 76 games, James has played 56 while Davis has only suited up for 38. The three stars have all played together just 21 times.
Anthony Davis frustrated by what Lakers trio could have been
For Davis, the most frustrating part is knowing how differently this season could have done if they had all been healthy together.
“We didn’t expect us to only have 21 games together but it’s kinda been that year,” Davis said.
LA has four games to go and they trail the Spurs by two games. They need to have everything go right if they want to lock in a spot in the play-in games.
Whether or not they make the playoffs, the Lakers will have decisions to make about whether they want to continue this experiment.
Westbrook has a player option in his contract. James and Davis both have deals covering next season. If they really want to see what they could have been, the trio could return for another go.
However, the clock is ticking on James’ career while Westbrook taking the brunt of the criticism for LA’s struggles could have him looking for a way out of dodge.
