After defeating the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, the New Orleans Pelicans updated their Twitter bio in a savage way.
Despite the return of Anthony Davis and a resurgent effort from LeBron James, the Lakers fell short against the New Orleans Pelicans. With the loss, the Lakers fell one game out of the play-in tournament and could fail to make the playoffs altogether. They’ve lost five games in a row.
James didn’t hesitate in showing his disappointment after the game, and it’s tough to blame him.
“The big picture is that it pretty much was a must-win for us, and we didn’t get the job done,” said James. “We had great opportunities throughout the night, and we didn’t make enough plays down the stretch. So that’s the big picture.”
Pelicans take parting shot at Lakers
The Pelicans took a parting shot at the Lakers on social media, burying Los Angeles in their social media bio while asking for more national attention at the same time.
The Pelicans commented on the lack of national attention given to them by outlets such as ESPN, while also taking a shot at the Lakers. Well done.
Of course, the majority of the coverage has gone to the Lakers’ inability to play well down the stretch — and rightly so. James and Davis won a championship together. Yet, the Pelicans deserve some credit for their feat, no?
Brandon Ingram and C.J. McCollum combined for 61 points. This is a team that, without Zion Williamson, most wrote off in the West. Yet, after three straight wins and hot streak towards the end of the season, New Orleans at the very least expects to make some noise in the play-in tournament.
Wins over the Lakers — and other perennial contenders — will force more of us pay attention.
