Watch Oscar-winner plead with President Biden to bring Brittney Griner home in acceptance speech.
When Ben Proudfoot accepted his Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject at the 2022 Academy Awards for “The Queen of Basketball” he used his time on the microphone to make a political plea.
“President Biden, bring Brittney Griner home,” he said on the microphone.
The film, which was produced by Shaquille O’Neal and Stephen Curry, is a film about Lusia Harris the first woman to score a basket in Olympic women’s basketball history and was the first woman officially drafted by an NBA team.
So it makes sense that the director would take the moment to plea for Griner who is currently being held by Russia for “allegations of smuggling significant amounts of a narcotic substance at a Moscow airport,” according to CNN.
Many people believe she is being held as a pawn to hold America from aiding Ukraine in their war with Russia.
