Jonathan Kuminga continues to impress during his first season and Klay Thompson is clearly a big fan of the power forward.
Early on in his career with the Golden State Warriors, power forward Jonathan Kuminga has impressed. While his 6.5 points and 2.3 rebounds a night don’t jump off the page, he’s getting better and better with each game.
This included his strong showing on Tuesday night in the win over the Detroit Pistons, as he scored 12 points and added 10 rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Superstar wing Klay Thompson was blown away with how the rookie performed.
Klay Thompson loved watching Jonathan Kuminga record a double-double vs. Detroit
“How many 19-year-olds can play above the rim like him and go out there and get 12 and 10, a double-double in an NBA game?” Thompson said after the win. “I mean, I’m so excited for JK’s future. He has an incredibly high ceiling and one day down the line it will be his team, or he’ll be a huge part of this team. I see him being one of the better players in the league one day.”
As you can tell from that Thompson quote, he is hyped up about Kuminga’s future with this team. In the 2021 NBA Draft, Golden State used the No. 7 overall pick on the 6-foot-7, 225-pounder. Kuminga was the No. 1 prospect for his class out of high school, but he went the G-League route instead of signing with a college.
He suited up for the Santa Cruz Warriors, then ended up joining Golden State once he was eligible to head to the NBA. Now, Kuminga is making plenty of noise in his first campaign and plenty of people are excited to see how he can develop. This includes Thompson.
