When 2021 WNBA Champion the Chicago Sky celebrated their Finals win, they did so with a hilarious memento: the door Diana Taurasi reportedly broke.
Winning the WNBA Finals isn’t easy, but neither is losing. Just ask Phoenix Mercury point guard Diana Taurasi.
After her team lost in Game 4 of the Finals, it put Chicago at 3-1, clinching the Championship for themselves. It was tough for the 39-year-old Taurasi, who has won the championship three times in her 17-year career.
Competitive as ever, Phoenix’s “White Mamba” reportedly slammed and broke a visiting locker room door after the defeat. In their celebration on Tuesday, the Chicago Sky took the door as a token of their total victory over Taurasi and the Mercury.
Chicago Sky brought the door Diana Taurasi broke to championship parade
When Business Insider reporter Meredith Cash asked Taurasi about the door, she had a hilarious non-answer: there were a lot of doors in the locker room.
Although it must have been a difficult moment after the final buzzer went off, both Taurasi and the Sky seem to be in good spirits after the damaged door. This is the first WNBA championship Chicago has brought home in its 15-year history.
After all, the Sky got the last laugh in the series and in the championship parade. Not only did they win, but they made one of the greatest to play the game punch a door in frustration.
