The Brooklyn Nets are hiring former Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets coach Steve Clifford as a coaching consultant, sources told ESPN.
In his consulting role, Clifford — who was the most sought-after assistant in the marketplace — will be with the team periodically throughout the 2021-2022 season.
Clifford has history with Nets head coach Steve Nash. The two worked together when Nash was a player for the Los Angeles Lakers and Clifford worked as an assistant coach in the 2012-13 season.
After serving as the head coach of the Magic for three seasons, Clifford and the franchise parted ways in June. Clifford led the Magic to the playoffs in two consecutive years before the organization shifted into a rebuild.
Clifford finished with a record of 96-131 with the Magic.
