The Milwaukee Bucks needed every possession of Game 6 to finish off the Phoenix Suns, but the moment they clinched the title was pure ecstasy.
After dropping the first two games of the NBA Finals, things looked grim for the Milwaukee Bucks. The Phoenix Suns were firing on all cylinders, Devin Booker and Chris Paul looked unstoppable and the Bucks’ offense was struggling just enough. What a difference a few days makes.
The Bucks won four straight to clinch their first title since 1971, taking things right down to the wire in a 105-98 victory in Game 6. They needed several clutch free throws from Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo to seal things and the game ended with a missed 3-pointer from Devin Booker falling into the hands of P.J. Tucker.
The Bucks’ championship celebration started the moment the final buzzer sounded
Giannis was masterful in Game 6, doing everything for his team at both ends of the floor and finishing with 50 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks in 42 minutes. Shaking off your demons was the story of the evening as Giannis went 17-of-19 from the free-throw line, proving that a team can indeed win a championship with him as its best player. But the Bucks also got huge performances from Middleton and Bobby Portis, with stout defense from Jrue Holiday and the rest of the supporting cast.
The celebration is just getting started in Milwaukee, a party they’ve been planning for 50 years. Here’s hoping everyone celebrates responsibly and the smiles on the faces of the Bucks and their fans can put a little extra pep in your step tomorrow.
