What did Trae Young yell at Knicks fans after his Game 1 dagger? Twitter lip readers have come to the rescue.
The Garden was astounding, the Knicks lead was fleeting, and madness indeed took its toll.
It wasn’t a time warp on Sunday in New York, rather the crash from the nostalgic trip Knicks fans had been on since the team clinched its first playoff berth since 2013. A long anticipated win was not to be had, rather Trae Young joined a long line of playoff victors to suck the soul right out of Knicks fans as they watched in stunned horror while another playoff loss played out in front of them.
Young hit what would eventually be a game-winning shot with under a second left in the fourth quarter of Game 1. After he hit the shot, Young addressed the crowd at MSG by shushing them and yelling an expletive-laden scold at them.
Unfortunately, Young wasn’t mic’d up because that audio would have been glorious. But the lip reading experts of Twitter checked out the footage and reported back what it appears Young is yelling at Knicks fans after daggering them in Game 1.
What did Trae Young yell at Knicks fans after that Game 1 shot?
It seems as though Young is yelling, “it’s quiet as [expletive] in here! It’s quiet as [expletitve]!”
And boy was it ever. One of the best parts about the instant classic taunt was the fact that Madison Square Garden had been electric all for the previous 47 minutes. As the Knicks surged back late in the first half to take a halftime lead, the Garden was booming.
Every block was met with a roar from the crowd, every shot sounded like it was the most important basket fans had ever seen. None of that is meant sarcastically, hearing how loud MSG was during Game 1 was a beautifully chaotic crescendo to the build towards finally having fans back at stadiums.
And in true Knicks fashion, they not only played into the romanticism of the game but also our fetish of seeing a fanbase’s heart ripped out of its collective chest.
