Mike Conley gave a terrifying description of what happened with the Utah Jazz’s team plane after it was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday.
The Utah Jazz had a genuinely terrifying day Tuesday. The team was preparing to fly to Tennessee for Wednesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The flight took off and immediately had to make an emergency landing after hitting a flock of birds.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon wrote a story on what happened and mentioned how players on the team feared for their lives. Veteran guard Mike Conley gave a sobering quote on how him and his teammates felt.

It is impossible to imagine how the team felt in this scenario. Five to 10 minutes is an eternity in such a situation, and the best news of all is that the plane made a safe landing.
Donovan Mitchell ended up missing Wednesday’s game in Memphis after the ordeal, and it is impossible to blame him. MacMahon mentioned in his story how Mitchell openly has a fear of flying. This situation is just about a worst-case scenario for anyone, let alone someone scared of flying.
The craziest thing about this is that the team had an emergency landing and still made the flight to Memphis a few hours later. And then they played the game and came out victorious. Conley was the team’s leading scorer as well.
MacMahon’s story mentions how there are still questions about whether Mitchell will travel with the team throughout the season. That is still to be determined.
The Jazz are all safe, and that is what matters most.
