Dennis Smith Jr. laid down a monstrous dunk at the expense of the Sacramento Kings on Friday night.
A couple of weeks ago, the Detroit Pistons parted ways with veteran point guard Derrick Rose by trading him to the New York Knicks. In return, the Pistons received a 2021 second-round draft pick (via the Charlotte Hornets) and guard Dennis Smith Jr. While fans have not heard much about Smith this season, they were reminded of what he can do with an emphatic play.
During Friday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings, Smith drove to the paint and took flight for a monstrous dunk between Kings forwards Marvin Bagley III and Richaun Holmes.
Smith’s dunk overshadowed by Pistons loss
While this play likely got many Pistons fans excited, they were quickly brought back down to earth as their team fell to the Kings, 110-107.
Smith had his best game yet with the Pistons, as he scored 17 points (on 7-of-13 shooting from the field) and notched 6 assists in 23 minutes of playing time. Not even Jerami Grant’s 30-point effort was enough for Detroit, as they’re now on a two-game losing streak. Point guard De’Aaron Fox led the way for the Kings, as he tallied 27 points (9-of-21 shooting from the field), 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
With this loss in the rearview mirror, Smith will look to have a repeat performance on Sunday night, when he faces his former team in the Knicks. Maybe he’ll have another vicious dunk in him.
