Draymond Green had a long walk back to the locker room in San Antonio.
The Warriors wasted a 40-percent shooting night from the San Antonio Spurs thanks to 20 turnovers, for the most part. Yet, it was one play down the stretch that NBA media will be talking about most.
Down three points with less than 10 seconds remaining, the Warriors had a chance to tie the game with the best three-point shooter of all time. So, did Steph Curry make the shot? The answer is no, but technically not because of his own doing. Draymond Green stole that opportunity away from him.
So, what was Draymond Green thinking?
Green assumed the Spurs defender was leaning in, and that Gregg Popovich would’ve demanded San Antonio foul him rather than play roulette with a Curry long-ball. Instead, the Spurs never intended to foul anyone, as Popovich rarely, if ever, employs that strategy.
Draymond launched up a shot from halfcourt which hit off the backboard, and the Warriors lone realistic chance at victory late went by the wayside.
The end result was especially frustrating for Golden State given the fact that, at one point, they held an 18-point lead. The Warriors struggles in San Antonio continue, as they’ve now lost 21 of their last 24 games on the road against the Spurs.
