JJ Redick rumors: 3 East contenders lead the pack for Pelicans sharpshooter

JJ Redick is bound to be on the move soon, with the Nets, 76ers and Celtics all interested.

It’s unknown what the New Orleans Pelicans asking price is for one of the best three-point shooters in the game, but draft capital should be expected in any return. Redick has been a DNP for the past several games in anticipation of a move, so expect these talks to wrap up pretty quickly.

All three teams have a need for more shooting. The 76ers, for one, are finally spacing the floor around Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Adding Redick to a group of shooters that includes Tobias Harris, Danny Green and Seth Curry would only make the team with the best record in the East better.

Redick is a Brooklyn native. Could a trade to the Nets be in the cards?

The Nets don’t have much else left to trade, as they dealt a large number of their young assets and draft picks to the Rockets and Cavaliers as part of a three-team transaction which landed them James Harden. Supplementing some of the depth they lost in the Harden trade with Redick would help immensely.

Redick is on an expiring contract, and will cost over $13 million this season. That’s affordable for most, especially if it helps deliver a championship.

The Celtics, also mentioned above, could sneak in and add more of an offensive punch to go with one of the youngest, impressive corps in the league. Redick is a career 41.4 percent three-point shooter, which is an effectiveness that warrants both his contract and potential cost in trade terms. The Celtics have the draft capital and/or impressive young players to swing a deal — not that it’ll come at an immense return for New Orleans.

Either way, it appears the Pels prefer to deal Redick outside of their own conference.
