Warriors bench lost it after Kelly Oubre hit his first 3 of the season (Video)

In his fourth game of the season, Kelly Oubre Jr. hit his first 3-pointer with the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors acquired Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Oklahoma City Thunder to fill the void left by Klay Thompson, who tore his Achilles on NBA Draft night. Fitting in the shoes of Thompson is no easy task, especially since he’s one of the more prolific 3-point shooters in the game today. In his first three games of the season, Oubre didn’t make a single 3-point shot, which made him the subject of ridicule on social media and by the Chicago Bulls broadcast team.

Oubre would finally conquer this feat during Monday’s game against the Detroit Pistons, as he successfully made his first 3-pointer. In response, the Warriors bench erupted with glee.

Kelly Oubre finally breaking out of funk?

Entering Golden State’s game against Detroit, Oubre was 0-for-17 on shots from beyond the arc. That’s what caused the NBC Sports Chicago team to poke fun at his struggles with the tagline “replacing Klay with bricks.” Maybe this served as a bit of motivation for Oubre.

In 29 minutes of playing time, Oubre scored 14 points while shooting 6-for-10 from the field and 1-for-4 from the 3-point line.

The Warriors were expected to return to their dynastic form this season with Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green leading the way. Unfortunately, Golden State’s shooting guard suffered his season-ending Achilles injury after he fully recovered from his torn ACL. Oubre, who had just been traded to Oklahoma City by way of the Phoenix Suns, found a new home in Golden State. It’s been a rough go of things so far this season, as the Warriors were blown out of their first two games by the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks before hitting a two-game win streak.

Oubre will look to prove that his struggles were just an anomaly on Friday, as the Warriors face the Portland Trail Blazers.
